Mobile and Cost-Effective Ex-Situ Treatment of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFASs)

Tersus Environmental is pleased to provide PerfluorAd®, a compound formulated for removing a broad range of PFASs from groundwater.  Developed by Cornelsen Umwelttechnologie in conjunction with the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology, PerfluorAd® is an economical solution for a heretofore difficult problem.  The chemistry succeeds by precipitating PFASs from solution.  A simple sedimentation process, followed by particulate filtration, captures the separated PFASs.  PerfluorAd® will not cause the precipitation of other dissolved nonpolar organic molecules nor produce PFAS reaction by-products. The process simply involves metering PerfluorAd® into a stirred reactor and disposing the flocked material.

PerflourAd Treatment

Because PFASs tend to be highly soluble, do not favorably partition into the vapor phase, and do not adsorb well to activated carbon, practitioners have difficulty remediating these compounds at a reasonable cost.  Fortunately, the costs for PerfluorAd are quite favorable compared to activated carbon or ion exchange systems.  And, unlike activated carbon, PerfluorAd works well for the removal of short-chain PFASs.
