TASK™ MicroEVO™ Self-Emulsifier
Field-Prepared Emulsified Vegetable Oil (EVO) Technology
Product Overview
TASK™ MicroEVO™ Self-Emulsifier is a proprietary surfactant blend designed to enable on-site preparation of high-quality emulsified vegetable oil (EVO) for anaerobic groundwater remediation. The product allows practitioners to source vegetable oil locally and emulsify it in the field using standard mixing equipment, significantly reducing shipping costs, carbon footprint, and third-party markups.
When combined with locally procured vegetable oil and water, TASK™ MicroEVO™ spontaneously forms a stable, microscale oil-in-water emulsion suitable for injection as an extended-release electron donor.
Technical Basis
Self-Emulsification and Droplet Size Control
TASK™ MicroEVO™ is engineered to phase-invert directly into vegetable oil, producing a uniform emulsion upon dilution with water. Field-prepared EVO generated using TASK™ MicroEVO™ typically exhibits a median oil droplet size of approximately one micron, supporting effective subsurface distribution and long-term electron donor performance.
The diluted emulsion has a viscosity essentially equal to that of water, allowing the oil droplets to move with the injected water and distribute over a broader radius of influence than would be achieved with undiluted oil injections.
Field-Prepared EVO Performance
After injection, the oil droplets remain suspended for a period ranging from days to weeks before adsorbing onto soil surfaces, where they act as a long-term fermentable carbon source supporting anaerobic bioremediation.
Applications
TASK™ MicroEVO™ Self-Emulsifier is used to prepare field-blended EVO for anaerobic remediation programs.
Typical applications include:
- Enhanced reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents
- Long-term electron donor delivery in groundwater
- Projects requiring cost-effective EVO deployment
- Sites where local sourcing of vegetable oil is preferred or required
- Large-scale injection programs where shipping efficiency is critical
Injection may be performed via wells or direct-push points.
Integration with Tersus Technologies
TASK™ MicroEVO™ Self-Emulsifier is commonly used in conjunction with EDS-ER™ to prepare field-blended emulsified oil substrates that function as extended-release electron donors.
Within integrated treatment strategies:
- TASK™ MicroEVO™ provides emulsification and droplet size control
- Locally sourced vegetable oil supplies the fermentable substrate
-
Complementary amendments may be added based on site-specific needs
This approach offers flexibility in formulation while maintaining consistent performance.
